![]() ![]() The show went off the air in 2010, and most of the cast has been very busy since then, but one has left the acting world completely for a very different job. From merry murdering girlfriends, to obsessed stalkers, a love child and so much more in just 100 episodes, it's impossible to imagine what would have happened if there was a Season 7. Not for the squeamish or faint of heart, this FX series never shied away from the graphic plastic surgeries (if you’ve seen the episode with the obese woman whose skin was permanently stuck to the couch it’s likely still emblazoned in your brain) or showing the mutilated victims of The Carver.īut the heart of the show was the complicated doctors Sean McNamara and Christian Troy, who had a thriving practice, and perfect looks, but some truly messed up lives. Focused on the two main plastic surgeons at McNamara/Troy, the show seamlessly blended satire, drama and twisted thrills. Like the description says…”deeply superficial”.Long before Ryan Murphy created such shows as American Horror Story, Glee and Pose, he crafted the ambitious and dark series Nip/Tuck. noun A cosmetic surgery procedure, often (but not always) one performed on the face. The scene with Kimber’s insight comes as a welcome note from two characters who have been so shallow for so long. When Christian catches her, she shows some true brilliance as she analyzes their relationship, which she sees as being anchored on self-hatred.Īll in all, the episode walks a nice line between the comedy and the more poignant moments. (I would have loved to have seen her face when she found out she would have to do this.) True to form, however, Kimber cannot accept herself and begins to resort to bulimia. This leads to the second fantasy sequence, with actress Kelly Carlson donning a fat suit, but retaining the porn star lingerie. She begins trying the foods she has avoided, like ice cream and pizza. ![]() When Christian confesses to the sex, Kimber is thrilled that she doesn’t need to stay skinny for Christian. She laments about her mother finally accepting her when she’s skinny on the outside but cancerous inside. ![]() Things turn tragic, however, when her biopsy comes back positive. She agrees to the lipo, but Liz rounds up her nudist friends for an intervention in the OR. She returns to accept his apology, and she admits to wavering in her self-confidence. After a fight with Christian about beauty and societal acceptance, he throws her out. In recovery, she raids the office fridge, but keeps her clothes off as she does it. Prior to the surgery, she and Christian have a tryst that leaves him speechless. ![]() A practicing nudist, Lola professes an acceptance of her body as is, and laughs off Christian’s offer of liposuction. The nudity on TV-MA shows has always been from the back, but leave it to this show to find the loophole in the censors’ decrees.Īs for Christian, he is introduced to Lola, a heavyset friend of Liz who wants moles taken off her back. Interesting side note here about censorship: The show is actually able to get in a topless scene by removing the nipples. As his GI Joe gets calf implants, Tracy shows up at Christian’s “Malibu Beach House” to explore her erogenous zones a little further. Their tryst leads to Skip’s reexamination of his sexual identity, and he starts a romance with a friend of his from the military. In recovery, he talks with Tracy about the risks and rewards of everything attached to sex, from intimacy to emotional exchanges. All this leads to a black and white fantasy where Sean Claver has built a home devoid of physical pleasure…until their hands touch from their separate beds and Sean relates the acts that Christian discussed at work. Sean tries to understand her outlook, since what he’s doing is the opposite of his entire career. Songs/Dances THE SHOWS Set in Pittsburgh’s Abby Lee Dance Company, Dance Moms follows children’s early steps on the road to stardom, and their doting mothers who are there for every rehearsal, performance and bow all under the discerning eye of Miller. To mirror this, Skip had his nipples removed (“One less erogenous zone”) and Tracy wants to follow suit. Sean consults with Tracy and Skip Pierce, who express an admiration for Barbi and Ken, who have held their 50 year relationship together by not basing it on sexual arousal. “Stripper? I wouldn’t do that to you! She’s a hooker!” – Christian Plotlines are kept simple this week, as Christian turns “chubby chaser” and Ken dumps Barbi for GI Joe.Ībandoned by Julia and the kids, Sean gets a package delivery that turns out to be a stripper sent by Christian. Staff fantasy sequences remind fans that this show can actually be funny when it sets its mind to it. ![]()
